Join us for an engaging virtual discussion exploring how recent federal immigration policy changes are affecting our local community - and how organizations are responding in real time.
Neighbors Link is a Westchester-based nonprofit organization dedicated to strengthening communities through immigrant empowerment and integration.
Hear from Elizabeth Mastropolo, Esq., Managing Attorney, and Laurie Feinstein, Esq., Staff Attorney and Pro Bono Legal Coordinator, as they discuss:
- The latest immigration policy developments and what they mean in practice
- The realities facing immigrant families in our community today
- How legal service providers are responding to rapidly evolving needs
- Common misconceptions and questions surrounding immigration
- Real stories that illustrate the human impact of today's policy environment
Participants will also learn how they can support this work through advocacy, volunteer engagement, and philanthropy.
Elizabeth Mastropolo, the managing attorney of Neighbors Link Community Law Practice, provides direct legal assistance to immigrants throughout the Hudson Valley in a myriad of cases before both United States Immigration and Citizenship Services and before the Immigration Court. She is licensed to practice law in New York, New Jersey and before the Immigration Court. Elizabeth completed her Juris Doctorate at St John’s University School of Law, where she graduated cum laude, and where she was awarded the Pro Bono Service Award as well as the Dianne Marie Arrue Memorial Award for her extraordinary commitment to Public Interest. She also won a CALI award for excellence in Legal Analysis, Writing and the Dean’s award for her work in the Child Advocacy Clinic where she represented children in abuse and neglect petitions before the New York Family Court. In addition to providing direct legal services at Neighbors Link, Elizabeth provides community education and advocacy to increase the community knowledge of topics affecting immigrants in the Hudson Valley. Elizabeth is a member of the American Immigration Lawyers Association, the Westchester Women’s Bar Association, the Rockland Immigration Coalition and the Westchester County Bar Association.
Laurie Beth Puhn Feinstein is a staff attorney and Pro Bono Initiative Coordinator at Neighbors Link Community Law Practice. She earned her B.A. from Harvard College and her J.D. from Harvard Law School in 2002 where she served on the Board of the Harvard Mediation Program. Laurie began her legal career as a litigation associate at Orrick, Herrington & Sutcliffe in Manhattan before transitioning to a broader focus on conflict resolution, communication, and human rights. She is the author of two books on effective communication — “Fight Less, Love More” (Rodale) and “Instant Persuasion” (Penguin) — and has provided training and education to corporations and nonprofits. Her focus on human rights led to advocacy and legal work in education, literacy, and immigration. Having served as a pro bono attorney at numerous non-profit organizations, including Neighbors Link, Laurie is thrilled to focus on direct representation and empowering pro bono volunteers to maximize their skills while fostering their own professional growth.
More about Neighbors Link: Founded in 2000, Neighbors Link strengthens whole communities through immigrant empowerment and integration. For over 25 years, we have provided low-income immigrants with the tools they need to thrive through English language instruction, workforce development, immigration legal services, family support, and community education. Originally established in Mount Kisco, Neighbors Link has expanded to include centers in Ossining and Yonkers, allowing us to bring important programming to more immigrant families across Westchester County and the Hudson Valley.Today, we serve more than 10,000 individuals annually, responding to the growing demand for trusted, accessible services that promote opportunity, stability, and belonging. The Neighbors Link Community Law Practice, with 23 staff attorneys and paralegals, is the largest pro-bono immigration legal services practice in the lower Hudson Valley, providing a full array of immigration legal services representing immigrant New Yorkers from around the world.
