The Comedy of Errors, presented by the Hudson Valley Shakespeare Festival Saturday, June 14, 2025, 5:00 PM
When I am dull with care and melancholy, Lightens my humour with his merry jests.
The Comedy of Errors, Act I, Scene 2
If the time is out of joint, we may be sustained by invoking more permanent verities, like Shakespeare. In The Comedy of Errors, Shakespeare’s classic tropes - twins, mistaken identity, even shipwrecks, - are still somehow comical, and Hudson Valley Shakespeare makes the antic most of them.
The Hudson Valley Harvard-Radcliffe Club is thus happy to offer, at deep discount, this professional production, capping a full evening’s engagement: first, (signposted “To Harvard Club”) under our rainproof tent by a lakeside willow where vintage wines from Brimstone Hill Vineyards of Dick Eldridge ’59 are accompanied by quiche and crab cakes, followed by an al fresco buffet dinner, and then critical analysis of the play by West Point Prof. Seth Herbst ’08, PhD ’15. Finally, the play’s the thing, approached by foot or cart, at the adjoining open-air tent theater.
As always, there is the opportunity to meet old friends, make new ones, and be reassured, at least for the evening, that all’s well that ends well.
