Westchester Parks Foundation & Westchester County Parks Dept co-host their annual "Pitch in for Parks" volunteer event around Earth Day. Several Club members, fellow alumni and their families will join this event open to the general public to help spruce up our precious parks.


** Important: The event is being held at multiple sites in two time slots. We will volunteer for the 10 am – 12 pm slot at Kensico Dam Plaza in Valhalla, NY. **

According to the event organizer:

  • All children are most welcome when accompanied by a responsible adult
  • Children 6 and older should be registered; children under 6 do not need to be registered
  • All tools will be provided
  • Possible volunteer tasks at this site include litter removal, painting, replacing wood chips, weeding and edging flower beds
  • Volunteers should wear closed toe shoes and clothes that can get dirty
  • Free on-site parking will be available
  • Everyone should bring their own drinking water
  • The event is rain or shine
  • An online waiver and day-of instructions will be emailed out 1-2 days before the event
  • Capacity is limited, so please register soon to guarantee a slot

If this time/location are not good for you, Pitch in for Parks will also be running at 3 other County parks (in Yonkers, Cortland, and White Plains) during 2 time slots (10 am–12 pm and 12 pm–2 pm) on this day.  Events are also running during the week.  While attending the Kensico Dam Plaza 10am-12pm slot will ensure that you are with some other alumni and H-R Club members, you are also most welcome to participate in the other Pitch in for Parks time slots on your own.  You can register for those alternate slots here:   https://www.thewpf.org/volunteer/pitch-in-for-parks/

Please note: This event is organized and sponsored by Westchester Parks Foundation and the Westchester County Parks Department, and is designed to comply with local public health guidelines relating to COVID.  The event is not organized or sponsored by the H-R Club of Westchester, and it will be open to the public.  Each individual and family should make their own decisions about participation with the understanding that the Club will not be responsible for any COVID or other risks or for the actions of other event participants.  The event organizers will require an online waiver for all event participants.
