CANCELLED - learn how local organizations are addressing food insecurity in Westchester

Join us for a talk hosted by the HBS Women's Association to learn from local groups are addressing the issue of food insecurity in Westchester.

Unbelievably, despite the enormous wealth in Westchester, there are more than 200,000 “food insecure” people here --1 in every 5. People who worry about how they are going to get their next meal or what trade-offs to make among buying food, medicine, rent, gas and childcare. While the dimension of the problem seems overwhelming, these people are assisted, to some degree, by Feeding Westchester (formerly the Food Bank for Westchester) which sources and distributes food and resources to roughly 300 food pantries, soup kitchens, shelters, residences and other partners in the county. But it is clearly not enough. And the problem can feel overwhelming.

Please come for coffee, dessert and an educational session about the dimension of the problem in our community, the solutions being pursued and how one group has been formed to help. You will not be asked to donate money at this educational session.

Speaking at the session will be:
  • Leslie Gordon, President and CEO of Feeding Westchester. Leslie will discuss their mission and how efficiently they can source and distribute food.
  • Malcolm Frouman, President of the Larchmont/Mamaroneck Hunger Task Force, one of the organizations that serves our community at the ground level.
  • Eric Nodiff, President and Founder of The Giving Circle of Southern Westchester, a not-for-profit that has raised and distributed over $75,000 in grants a year to vetted organizations that serve the “food insecure” community.
